Happy Thursday Morning, little local market of love customers!!!

Just a quick note to let you know that if you placed an order, this week, or even if you did not, you may want to pick up that order as soon as we open at 4:30 or race to the YMCA lobby…

Because, for the first time this season, Harrigan’s Harvest is bringing us the first of her asparagus!! These very cold temperatures have forced her to get the first of the crop, out of the fields. She will be set up in the lobby, across from the market area. Get there early, she has limited quantity, and grab what you need!!!

Hello Friends,

We will be back in Bristow tomorrow.

This week’s CSA selection will include asparagus and spinach
a selection of kale varieties and collard greens
Bok Choy and Kholrabi
Radishes and Salad Turnips
Green Onions
Green Leaf, butterhead, and spring mix lettuce.

We are also going to pick strawberries tomorrow! We don’t know if we will get enough yet to include in the CSA until next week, but we might have a few quarts to sell.

We will also be bringing plenty of extra asparagus in with us along with lettuce, spinach, green onions, radishes, salad turnips, and a few kholrabi.

Please email me if you are interested in any bulk quantities of spinach or asparagus at bulk pricing.

HAPPY EARTH DAY!

Spring planting is upon us!

Did you know that in addition to local foods and products the Cumming Harvest sells locally grown plants? That’s right, we have a large selection of vegetable & decorative plants, herbs, flowers and more for sale, grown locally and naturally by our very own farmers and growers.

Here is a sampling of some of the plants for sale by vendor:

North Forsyth High School Ag Dept – listing this week. Many plants they have started from transplants and seed.

Sweet Pea Gardens – Lots of decorative plants to chose from; canna lilys, iris, lambs ear, and hosta to name a few. Fruit bushes – raspberry, blackberry and strawberries. They also sell inoculated mushroom logs, if you are interested in growing your own mushrooms this is the way to go.

Leilani’s Gardens – Decorative plants like verbena, coleus and dalias. Lots of herbs! Lavender, basil, dill, mint and many more. Vegetables like kale and leeks.

M.J.s Fruit and Veg – Vegetable plants – tomatoes, eggplant, peppers and tomatillos.

Heirloom Gardens – Tomato plants – heirloom varieties.

This is just a sampling of the plants being offered – visit the “Plants” tab on the Cumming Harvest website to see the full selection. Currently we have over 100 different types of plants for sale!

REMINDER – We are now selling RAW milk from Heritage Farm (for pet consumption). Go to the “Dairy” tab to order. Limited quantity.

Pick Up Options

COLONY PARK PICK-UP This is our main location and all orders will be prepared for you for pick up at this location if you don’t choose another option below. You can order and pick up meat and seafood at this location.

VICKERY PICK-UP – Vickery Village Cherry Street Taproom pick up is between 1:00-1:30pm. If you would like to pick up at Vickery choose VICKERY PICK-UP item in the categories on the The Market page/tab. Customers choosing to pick up at Vickery should not order meat or seafood as we cannot transport meat and seafood due to Dept. of Ag regulations.

DELIVERY to Vickery/Polo Area – Please add this item to your order if you would like delivery to your home on Saturday between 1:30-3pm. Only prepaid orders will be accepted. Deliveries will be dropped off at your front door. If you are not going to be home, please leave a insulated bag or cooler for your order. The delivery person is not responsible for making sure your food is in the appropriate container once dropped off. Please plan for possible rain and make sure your order will be protected. The delivery person will travel with your orders in insulated bags with ice packs to protect it during travel. No Meat or Seafood will be able to be delivered.

Group Buy

Green Pastures – April order has arrived and is ready for pick up at the market.
Butter – Expecting delivery of raw butter in this week.
Gelatin – Great Lakes Gelatin is available for order online this week.
Raw Cheese – Our remaining blocks of Havarti, Jalapeno and Pepper Jack is on sale this week. You may order these online. A new order has been placed, waiting on delivery.

Building 106, Colony Park Dr. in the Basement of Suite 100, Cumming, GA 30040. Pick up every Saturday between 10-12pm.

Siloam Springs, AR:  Reserved Parking spaces for April 25th pick up


Hey everyone! Don’t be concerned about parking on Saturday – we have made arrangements to reserve several parking spaces in the lot where the office/conference room is located. They will be clearly marked for market customers.

Place an order with confidence. You will have no problems with parking.

We have lots of farm fresh eggs available and there is additional meat inventory being added daily.

ALFN Local Food Club:  Today's Weblog Is Brought To You By The Letter S.


One of my favorite things about eating locally farmed foods is the challenge of dealing with a truly spectacular bounty. There are more than a few crops that do so well in Arkansas that a devoted locavore may find themselves eating them every day for months on end. All too often, someone with the best of intentions will find themselves at the end of their rope, unable to bear the thought of eating just one more meal of the same old thing. And it’s a real shame. Because there are dozens of ways to prepare any given product, and none of this fabulous food that our farmers work so hard to nurture should ever go to waste.

This spring, I’m hearing a lot about spinach. Epic fields of spinach. Seas of spinach that stretch as far as the eye can see. And it occurs to me that spinach doesn’t have the best public image. If you’ve only ever had canned or boiled spinach, or can’t think of anything to do with it other than salad and lasagna, maybe it’s time to broaden your culinary horizons.

Aside from being super good for you, spinach is also incredibly versatile. It takes no time at all to throw a handful into your smoothie, omelet, or mac and cheese. It’s just as delicious creamed as it is in spanakopita. If you’re willing to set your preconceived notions aside, it may even have a place or two on your dessert table.

With this many mouth-watering options, it’s only a matter of time before the problem will be that there isn’t enough spinach to go around. Be sure to order yours before The Market closes. (Pro Tip: It freezes wonderfully after a quick blanch, and there happens to be a bulk listing.)

South Cumberland Farmer's Market:  Free Seeds ! !


At the register area at market today, Kir will have free seeds to share. Most are organic from trusted suppliers. Some packets have only a few seeds left; some are unopened.

Tullahoma Locally Grown:  NEW grower!


The market is open, Ordering closes tomorrow at Noon.

Our Newest Vendor, Keeping it Clean Produce from Tullahoma, has bok choy, Mesclun salad mix, kale mix, japanese turnips, and spinach.

We now have Hansen’s Honey on the market, from Manchester TN.

FROM DOGWOOD VALLEY GREENHOUSE
Tomato and bell pepper plants are now available in gallon pots, large and strong and ready to transplant. Dogwood Valley Greenhouse has four varieties of tomatoes and three of peppers this year. The herbs and hanging baskets all look great as well. We also have several new perennial friends flowering this week, as well as most of the ones listed the previous two weeks. New this week are coral bells and scabiosa, as well as several varieties of ferns and euonymous or “burning bush.” Don’t forget our beautiful planters for Mother’s Day! Purchase or reserve your one-of-a-kind planter now before they are gone.
