ALFN Local Food Club:  Market Reminder

Good Morning foodies!

This is your last chance to place an order from the market before it closes at noon. We have a new grower, Davis Family Farm, who is selling duck eggs – she’s almost sold out for the week, so grab them while you can!

Thank you to all our volunteers who signed up for this weekend. If you’re interested in earning credit or membership for your account, sign up to volunteer with us in the future.

The Cumming Harvest - Closed:  This week on The Cumming Harvest

Chicken will be back on the market beginning next week. I am excited to announce that Back in Time Farm will be delivering chicken to The Cumming Harvest on a bi-weekly basis. Ruth and Bill Hayden operate a small, 14 acre family farm located just around the corner in Barrow County. They pasture red broilers, a slower-growing chicken that produces a more flavorful bird. Their birds live in portable chicken tractors that are moved to fresh grass daily and are fed a non- GMO feed. Check out their grower profile for more information and for pictures.

Ancient Awakenings is back this week. Have you tried their Kefir?

With so many people out there feeling under the weather, don’t forget about Good Shepherd Herbals Elderberry Syrup! It’s great for colds or flu, helping your immune system in general so it’s good to keep around when you start to feel under the weather. It’s a dark, sweet syrup that the entire family will enjoy.

Veggies
Even though several of our farmers grow their vegetables in hoop houses that offer protection from the cold, it always happens this time of year when the temperatures drop below freezing for an extended period of time, that we run short on our supply of vegetables. Enjoy what is available, knowing that is is fresher and healthier than anything you will find in the grocery store. As a bonus, cold weather makes the greens sweeter.

Siloam Springs, AR:  Time to stock up on Pastured Chicken! Online Market is Open!

www.siloamsprings.locallygrown.net

R Family Farm chicken is selling quickly. This is the last of the chicken until Spring so be sure to stock up while you can. Bone broth is great to have year round, but especially good during the winter with all the colds and flu going around.

You can purchase honey, farm fresh eggs,Lefse, beautifully knitted/crocheted kitchen items, and all natural products for personal and home use.

What is Lefse you ask? Lefse is a traditional soft Norwegian flatbread. It is made with potatoes, flour, butter, and milk or cream. It is similar to a tortilla, maybe a bit larger. You can use it as a wrap for sandwiches, breakfast burritos, or slathered with butter and honey.

Enjoy the warmer temps this week as it looks like we will be experiencing cold temps again by Friday.

Have a great week and see you Saturday!
