Foothills Market: The Market is Open - November 6
Good morning! The Foothills Market is open for this week.
We have a good variety of frozen local meats from Sheepy Hollow Farm, as well as fresh fall vegetables such as rutabagas, turnips and turnip greens, and pumpkins from Happy Horseshoe Farm. The market also offers a variety of jams, jellies, and baked goods.
Browse our offerings on the Foothills Market page between now and noon on Thursday. To place your order, simply add any items you would like to your cart, then click the “Place my order” button. You can then pick up your order between 4-6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 10.
We’re looking for both new customers and new growers interested in keeping local access to fresh produce available now that the in-person farmers’ market has closed for the season. We’d appreciate your telling your friends and neighbors about Foothills Market. Word of mouth – or word of mouse! – is the best way to spread the word.
Happy shopping! Eat something fresh this week!

GFM : Winter, Summer, Spring or Fall
I’m so confused. So is the weather man, and the plants.
I made the mistake of putting all my summer clothes away, thinking winter was finally here, only to have to pull some of them out again yesterday.
AND, the garden was done for, I thought and it thought, now I am finding things re-growing. Talk about confused.
Well no matter, just check in with our vendors here with our online market and see what they have available each week during the “off” season.
I would suggest checking Daily before you order on Thursday evening as some of our vendors change or add things during the week.
JUST A HEADS UP: THE ONLINE MARKET WILL BE CLOSED THE WEEK OF THANKSGIVING TO GIVE THIS WRITER A BREAK AND A VACATION.
Keep shopping and if you have questions and need answers you can always call.

Market News
Looks like it’s going to be a beautiful week, just the sort that the cool weather leafy greens love. The cabbages in my garden are really starting to go gang-busters, and I’m hoping the little kohlrabi soon follow suit. I’ve been looking forward to eating those for weeks already.
ALG operates year-round, even after all of the other area markets close, but there is one week we take off every year: the week of Thanksgiving. We will be open as usual the rest of November, so if there are things you’d like for your Thanksgiving meals, you’ll need to plan ahead and order them early. I’ve been asked if I know of any local growers with turkeys available. We have in years past had ALG growers raising turkeys, but most everyone has stopped trying. Domestic turkeys, even heritage breeds, have a really hard time with the heat and humidities of our summers, and so take an enormous amount of labor to raise well. As the holiday gets closer, I may get a few leads on a handful of locally raised heritage turkeys, and if so, I’ll share them with you.
Thank you so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you on Thursday at Ben’s Bikes at the corner of Pope and Broad Streets from 4:30 to 8pm!

Ok, if you haven’t tried Short Mountain Cultures Kefir waters… you and your gut health are missing a trick! SO DELICIOUS, every single one of them! The grape delivers that well loved “soda” flavor. the Pear Cardamom is subtle and I couldn’t put that one down! Had to find a bit of self control!
Have a great start to your week and as always, we thank you so much for supporting LOCAL producers/makers!See ya on the porch!!
