NEWS AND NOTES

Welcome to Rachel’s Cupcakes from Tullahoma! Watch for her very attractive products to be added soon!

Vegetable production is still in full swing, with several recent additions of cool-season crops, and several of our farmers have a good selection on the market. White City Produce & Greenhouses has added curly kale and green onions this week. These other great vegetables are still available on our market from local growers: Brussels sprouts, broccoli, turnips, red potatoes, cabbage, spinach, and cucumbers; and several types of tomatoes, lettuce, and peppers.

But our farmers’ market is not just about vegetables. Please take note of some of the seasonal items available this week: Live Water Kefir Grains and Square Bale Grass Hay from Triple B Farms; Ground Beef from Paccman Ranch; and Scuppernong cider and jelly from White City Produce & Greenhouses.

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse is offering fabric-lined baskets filled with three herb plants, each in its own 4" pot. These pretty baskets will make great Thanksgiving decorations or hostess gifts. Herbs included will be those commonly used in baking and cooking, a great addition to any kitchen. Specify your preference of herbs from this list: lemon balm; orange, pineapple, apple, chocolate, spearmint, or grapefruit mint; Greek or variegated oregano; silver-edged, English, common, variegated lemon, citrus, or lime thyme. Basket #1 is approximately 8-9" round with a handle, but may be different from the picture on the market. Pattern of fabric may vary, but will be fall/Thanksgiving themed.

We also have lots of our regular year-round items: perennial, herb, and fern plants, as well as a good selection of houseplants; local milk, eggs, and honey; pork and chicken cuts; dried herbs and fresh, as well as lots of homemade herbal products too.

Important Ordering and Pickup Information

Ordering will be open until Tuesday at 10 p.m., and your order will be available for pickup on Thursday between 4:00 and 5:30 (note later pickup hours) at Square Books, 113 East Main Street, Manchester. We can also hold your order in the refrigerator till Friday, if it’s more convenient for you to pick it up between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm. If you prefer to utilize this free service, please make a note on your order or call my cell at (931) 273-9708.

Thanks so much for your support of Manchester Locally Grown Market, and your friends and neighbors who have grown and produced these items. Please encourage our local farmers by helping to spread the word about our wonderful market to everyone you know. We have more variety than many large Saturday markets, and our items will be in your hands on Thursday! Instead of fighting the crowds and getting up early to search for what you want at the Saturday market, check out the wonderful products our local growers have for you, from the comfort of your own computer.

We have some new farmers considering joining our market, if they can expect large sales to help pay their transportation costs. Please help us grow the market by sharing this e-mail with your friends, calling their attention to the later pickup hours, which may be more convenient for them. And if you haven’t ordered from Manchester Locally Grown for a while, please check out our wide variety of offerings this week. Also please let us know if we can improve our selection or scheduling in any way to better suit your needs.

Blessings,
Linda

Lake Placid Online Farmer's Market:  Happy November--the Market is Now Open!

Hello Everyone,

Hope you are all well and enjoying the lovely (and, in the case of the last few days, warmer than usual) Autumn weather we’ve been having!

After a hiatus, the farmer’s market has started again, just in time for Thanksgiving! Now’s the time to stock up on some items for your family feast, or just because it’s your favorite foods fresh from your local farmers.

We did make a few changes during the hiatus. The small change is the template of the market, which is now decked out in fall colors to celebrate the autumn season. The big change is that payment is now via credit card at checkout to streamline the accounting for the market and make it easier for everyone. It’s a very simple process where you add a credit card, then when returned to your cart for checkout, select that preferred credit card for payment. So then there’s no need to bring money to the market, all you need is to pick up your items on Wednesday afternoon at the Lake Placid Skate Shop (2647 Main Street, across from the Olympic Oval and Olympic Center in Lake Placid).

Here are some exciting new items on sale this market:

Sweet potatoes—medium and large. Perfect for Thanksgiving dinner!

Rutabagas—another excellent autumn/winter treat.

Carrots—A lovely addition to soups and stews as the season gets chilly!

Squash—I know in my house, we love our squash. Butternut and honey nut can even be used in pies “pumpkin pie style” but they are also fantastic baked, sautéed, or mashed.

Kale—A super food! An easy way to add greens to your diet; make smoothies with them, add them to salad, sautée them, steam them….they are a versatile and nutritious treat.

CHEESE!—Asgaard has several different varieties of goat cheese, which can be a perfect appetizer for your Thanksgiving feast; they also have home-made caramels and meat available in the market.

Of course, see the list below for a full listing of items available at this market!

Hope to see you Wednesday, and happy shopping!

Best,
Christie

The Market will be open until Monday night. Pick Up will be on Wed. from 4:30 – 6:30 at my house.

Have a good weekend.

Thanks.

Melinda
