Suwanee Whole Life Co-op:  Market is OPEN for orders!

ORDERING:
The market is now open for ordering!
suwanee.locallygrown.net

New item: Grass Fed Alpaca
Alpacas have been in the US since 1884 but North Americans are just now discovering this tasty and nutritious meat. Alpaca meat has been described at one of Carrell Farm’s tastings as “pork without the pig”. It has a texture very similar to pork with a mild sweet flavor. It is one of the leanest meat and very low in cholesterol. The ground alpaca makes great burgers or meatloaf. Mix it with ground water buffalo for a Swedish meatball you just can’t get anywhere else! Like all good grassfed meats, it is best cooked medium rare. Try it this week

If you do NOT receive a confirmation email immediately after you placed your order, then your items are still in your cart and your order is not complete. All orders must be placed by 5pm on Sunday.

PICK UP:
Pick up is on Tuesday at 4942 Austin Park Avenue, Buford 30518 from 1pm to 6:45 pm.

PAYMENT:
We take checks, cash, credit card and Dwolla

If you are planning to pay using Dwolla please make sure your deposit includes the 25 cents fee. For example, if your order total is $22.50 make your deposit for $22.75.

Please make sure you understand our pick up policy before you order.

Have a blessed weekend!

Recycling Produce Boxes

Last year, when we were in my garage we used to recycle produce boxes but due to lack of space we had to stop. I’m happy to announce that we will now start recycling Nature’s Garden Express boxes again! PLEASE break down your box and make sure it is completely flat.

There will be an area designated for recycling the boxes. Please do NOT leave any other packaging or freezer packs- flattened NGE produce boxes only. I will give the collected boxes to the delivery driver every Tuesday.

CSA Farmers Market:  Lamb Burgers with Garlic and Onion Gouda

Lamb Burgers with Garlic and Onion Gouda

1 slice of sandwich bread
2-3 Tbsp. milk
1 egg
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup chopped parsley
1/2 tsp. ground allspice
1.25 tsp. dried oregano
1/8 tsp. ground cumin
1 – 1.25 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1 medium onion, grated
1.25 lbs. ground lamb
Lettuce for topping

Place the slice of bread in a large bowl. Pour the milk over it, to soak the bread. Let it soak while you gather your ingredients and grate your onions. Then, squeeze out most of the milk from the bread, using your hand. Discard the extra milk, and crumble up the soaked bread back into the bowl. Add the egg, garlic, parsley, allspice, oregano, cumin, salt, pepper, grated onion, and lamb. Gently mix until all ingredients are well combined, and shape into 4-5 patties (or 4 patties and 1 toddler patty :)).

Cook the patties on a grill or in a cast iron skillet on the stove top (or under your broiler), for about 4 minutes before flipping. Add a slice of cheese and continue to cook another 4 minutes, or until burgers are done to your liking. Top with some yummy lettuce and your done!

MARKET NEWS

*Tumeric seems to be all the buzz right now and for good reason! There are so many health benefits to using fresh in your smoothie or just putting the powder in your cooking. It has anti-inflammatory properties, it has iron and manganese but it’s properties have been shown to help those with auto-immune issues to even cancer. Never mind the benefits of curcumin, tumeric’s active ingredient.
I have wanted to grow it myself and found this article from a blog called The Rain Forest Garden and I hope this gives you some ideas if you are considering growing it yourself! Enjoy!

We have opportunities to get some really cool items but there are minimum limits for some to get them offered on the Market. So be looking for that as I share the wonderful items available to us and see your interest!

Please share with friends and family about us so that we can give more people the opportunity to buy and eat healthy! Local farmers need our support to keep providing us with all the fresh foods! If we don’t give them enough business, it’s hard for them to continue to deliver to us. Please let’s not let that happen! Tell your friends about us so we can keep the Growers supported as this is how they make their living. *_

Fisher's Produce:  Weblog Entry

Hello Friends!

The adventures of the last five months in the DR Congo are now memories and we are back in Oklahoma as of last week. It might feel like winter outside, but our seed greenhouse is full of sprouting plants! We are busy preparing our gardens for planting as well as training our little farmer in the making. :)

CSA season is around the corner! Registration is now open. You can sign up here or go to the CSA tab on our website.

We are excited about offering a wide variety of fresh produce for your tables this year! We’re expanding our berry repertoire and are planting cantaloupe and watermelons as well as our regular array of vegetables.

We look forward to serving you this year!

Luke, Chantée and Hudson Fisher

ALFN Local Food Club:  Market Reminder!

What better way to show you care for someone, than by preparing them a delicious meal? And the best way to guarentee that meal is truly delicious, is to use fresh, fantastic, locally grown ingredients! So whether the love of your life is your spouse, child, best friend, or dog, take a look around The Market and you’re bound to find a few of their favorite things. Be it spicy vegan stir-fry with broccoli, snow peas, and shiitakes, or slow-roasted bufflo brisket with turnip gratin, or even simple scrambled eggs with sausage, there really is no better way to express your devotion and gratitude. Especially if you also do the dishes.

For those of you who prefer something you can put a bow on, don’t forget to browse the Gift Baskets & Sets catagory for an abundance of great giftables. But make sure you get your order in before The Market closes at noon, or you’ll be stuck spending your Friday night in a long line for mass-produced chocolates and pink teddy bears.
